Happy New Year!
Whilst 2020 is finally over, we’re taking the time to look back at Google Search Trends for 2020 to see how changes relating to COVID-19 affected top search results and if any searches can be expected to continue in the next 12 months.
2020 saw some very significant events, outside of the obvious. In late January Kobe Bryant unexpectedly passed away, the Black Lives Matter movement took centre stage, and the US Election took place. The popularity of these is represented in the spike in searches seen in January, June and November.
If you look at the Google Search Trends diagram, you can almost pinpoint when national lockdowns began and when people started looking for more information about the virus and what it meant for their lives.

Zoom hadn’t seen popularity like it until remote working and video conferencing were the primary methods of keeping in touch and as boredom hit, searches for TikTok increased and have remained consistently high throughout 2020.
It’s safe to say that in 2021, Google will still see people looking for more information about COVID-19 symptoms and statistics and searching for remote working and educational tools.
