Social Media Predictions for 2021

Social media is such an integral part of our lives and what started as a way of staying in touch with friends and family, has now become a hub for brands and businesses to connect with their target audience.

Check out my social media predictions for 2021.

Video content will continue to dominate timelines.

Video content is one of the most engaging forms of content, whether you’re posting short-form videos, like TikTok, Reels or Stories or longer pieces of content like YouTube. According to a study by Cisco, by 2022, 82% of all online content will be video content, start utilising this now to get ahead of the game.

Nostalgia

As COVID-19 really hit home, timelines saw an influx of nostalgic content, as people wanted to remember better times and connect with positive memories and escape the harsh realities of lockdown-life.
Going into 2021, my creative colleagues and I think that brands will look to use nostalgia and emotionally engage audiences with uplifting memories and escapism.

Shopping on Social Media

Social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram are making it easier than ever for consumers to not only discover products but also go through the entire purchasing journey, without leaving the platform. Towards the end of 2020, ecommerce buttons have appeared in prominent places on apps meaning platforms are likely to continue to push this form of shopping in the new year. Retail brands will have to adapt to the new ways of reaching customers.

…and Instagram will finally change their algorithm to chronological – just kidding!

What do you think 2021 will bring for digital marketing and social media? I can’t wait to see what the next 12 months have in store for marketers and consumers.
